What can I do about an abusive family member?

My brother is older than me, and he is very violent and disrespuctful to the point were I feel I'm in serious danger. My mom doesn't do anything about it, partially because he over powers her and she can't deal with it so I have to defend myself and it's hard because he is bigger than me. We don't live with my father so he can't do anything. Is it possible I can get a restraining order, or file something to the police?

Answers:
Domestic abuse is a crime. It can and should be reported to the police. It includes a family member assaulting another family member, or just the threat of an assault. And yes, you could qualify for a restraining order. Where there is violence within the family household, the courts often order the offender to vacate the residence and refrain from contacting the other occupants.

Talk to a counselor at school. Or call child protective services or the police.
Your mother NEEDS to deal with it. Talk to her about it, and beg her to do something. It is not fair that you should live in fear because she is unwilling to get the police involved. Sometimes, a visit from the police will get a guy's attention, and then he will know that his mother is not afraid to call them if needed. You can call the police yourself, but it would be better if your Mom does it. He needs to be stopped for his own good, and for your sakes as well.
