Undervalued property. . . tax laws?
I bought a house in Spain and valued it as advised by estate agent and solicitor at a slightly lower value. 2 years later I have had a demand for taxes which amount to almost double the value of the property . NO BODY has been to my house to re-value. Can anyone out there advise ? I have heard of 3 other "Brits" in the area who have also had demands for money. Why are the estate agents and solicitors giving out false information when buying property in this country and HOW are they getting away with it?
Answers:
It is possible that the property has gone up in value or the tax collector merely needs money.
You need a good appraisal of your property.
In the United States appraisers certified by The Appraisal Institute are your most reliable source.
If you contact The Appraisal Institute in the United States they can tell you how to find a reliable appraiser in Spain.
You will need an attorney licensed to practive law in Spain to challenge the valuation of your property if it is really not valued correctly. A good appraisal will be key to yur case.
Good Luck.
