What do you do if doctors charge you for service, but they didnt do anything?

they saw you, but were unable to treat you, and their only advice was to go to the hospital? they charged me for telling me they couldnt help me, and sent me to the hospital.

i just came from the hospital, and the hospital doctor told me to go to the doctor, where i went. then he told me to go to the hospital, he couldnt treat me. sent me bill for 90.00.

went to another doctor and he treated me. for 30.00

what can i do? i called office and told them they were nuts to bill me. havent heard from them. how do i make sure they got rid of bill?

Answers:
just keep on calling them until they get it resolved. i was billed for some misc. items and thats what they said on my papers was misc. work for 30 dollars. just keep calling them and they will eventually work something out with you. good luck.

You can pay the bill. The doctor gave you his time. It's not like McDonald's where you will walk out with a hamburger. I would talk to the hospital doctor though who referred you to that doctor in the first place. There is more miscommunication between doctors than you even want to know about.
You are paying the consultation fee..
Going to see the doctor, even if he cannot help you does cost money as you are occupying his time.
the doctor charged you because you made an appointment, went to his office, and took up his time. You must have had some problem he couldn't treat in his office, either due to lack of equipment, or inability to diagnose the problem.

If someone comes to my office, and has some problem (let's say pneumonia), that needs to go to the hospital, then I am doing what I'm supposed to do by sending you to the hospital. And I am going to charge you for me telling you to go to the hospital, because that is medical advice.

His fee schedule is whatever he decides it is. If he wants to charge $90 for an initial patient evaluation, then that's his perogative, just like the plumber who charges you $100 to come and tell you about your leaky faucet (without fixing it).
