Other than the morality issue, why is suicide illegal?
I understand it often hurts the people "left behind" and the other moral and psychologial issues. But what makes suicide "wrong" from a civil viewpoint? Or is it just another law simply based on morality?
Answers:
It's a moral law that's been criminalized.
If I felt like I wanted to go, I'd rather have that option opposed to living in a state where I was rendered useless.
suicide being illegal is probably a lame, quick fix attempt to solve the problem.
dont have the answer but good question, why we dont have the right to end our own life.
First of all, please don't kill yourself. Actually, suicide isn't illegal because of any morality issue, sorry to bust your bubble. Suicide is illegal because it means less population to make money and therefore pay taxes...
It illegal to murder, even yourself, though I doubt anyone who was successful has ever been charged!
Well, from a practicality standpoint, that's really the only way you can legally stop someone from doing it. Because it's illegal, you can prevent someone from killing themselves by having them institutionalized. If what they were doing was legal, you'd have to just stand by and let them do it.
I thought suicide was taken off from the books of being illegal in all states and most western countries by the 1970's. OK I just checked and Ireland repealed the law in 1993.
Suicide is not illegal. Immoral? Guess that would depend on the individual. civilly, it isn't wrong. But it does leave some shocked people behind. Psychologically damaged people... people that will feel pain for a long time.
In committing a crime you sacrifice certain rights, anyone with mental illness resulting in a suicide attempt needs to be taken into a medically supervised custody.
Its not a moral issue, its a practical one.
It deprives the government of a source of taxes and one less person to control .
If suicide were made legal, it will automatically prevent the further investigation of each death caused by suicide. Meaning: the legalization will make it easier for the offender to commit a murder of a victim and stage it as suicide.
Suicide is the only crime where they only press charges if you fail (it's not illegal as long as you succeed :))
Obviously it wouldnt be illegal for the one commiting it because he or she is gone, now some one like Kevorkian assisting would make it illegal because he is in fact party to the taking of a human life. Not that it matters all that much anymore since our homicide rate here in the U.S. is out of control, sadly it's our kids that are killing each other.
