Do you think it should be against company rules to hire the children of employees? why or why not?

Nepotism. It has always been considered unfair and unlawful labor practice.

What is nepotism?=nepotism - unfair use of power to get benefits or a job for family and friends.

The only place for nepotism is in family business. That means it is a private business. All state or public funded companies fall under certain antidiscriminatory llaws where the anti nepotism bill applies.


I think it should be against the rules for hiring managers to hire their own relatives. I've been fired from jobs because someone wanted to help out their nephew who does coke or their niece who never calls. It gets old.

As for your question I do think there should be a limit to it. Maybe no more than 5 relatives from one family.
i don't like nepotism and nor would i work with or for a family member. but, my personal opinion is not shared by every company on the planet. each company is free to choose whom they hire. you have the choice not to work for a company who shares a different belief from yours.
Interesting Question. If the relative in question has a good resume and credentials and is a good worker then no. But if it's just someone helping out some one in then their family that is not pre-pared for the job and is lazy the relative should not be allowed to work their. So as to your question I say it should depend on the situation, and all managers/employees in the office/ where ever should take a vote on whether or not the relative will actually help well in the office/where ever.
A private company can hire anyone they want, as long as the hiring of that person does not violate company policy.

Corporations may also hire children, wives, brother's in laws, sister's in laws, nephews, aunt, uncles, etc., etc., etc., unless the Incorporation papers state otherrwise.

The ability to hire whoever you want is one of the precepts of "freedom" Americans have.
I don't personally agree with it b/c my brother is going through that very thing at BELL SOUTH phone company in TN. I think if the "kid" is qualified for a job, he can get another job doing the same thing somewhere else. I can't think of a single instance where there is only ONE company that provides a specific service.
