Who do our bodies/lives belong to?

As long as I do not harm another human being or otherwise deprive them by stealing, vandalizing, etc. Why is it anyone's business what I do with my life/body? What gives the government, or society, the right to tell me what I can('t) read, eat, or do with my life/body?

Ron Paul

National Platform of the Libertarian Party

Adopted in Convention, July 2, 2006, Portland Oregon
Preamble
As Libertarians, we seek a world of liberty; a world in which all individuals are sovereign over their own lives and no one is forced to sacrifice his or her values for the benefit of others.

We believe that respect for individual rights is the essential precondition for a free and prosperous world, that force and fraud must be banished from human relationships, and that only through freedom can peace and prosperity be realized.

Consequently, we defend each person's right to engage in any activity that is peaceful and honest, and welcome the diversity that freedom brings. The world we seek to build is one where individuals are free to follow their own dreams in their own ways, without interference from government or any authoritarian power.

These specific policies are not our goal, however. Our goal is nothing more nor less than a world set free in our lifetime, and it is to this end that we take these stands

this is a great start to their platform, in my opinion they are the best party out there

rest of the platform is listed on there website

If you're young, you will be future leader. if during your time you sucks, then how you can become good leader?
They have acquired that right through force, and until there is a change they will keep that right, it doesn't matter which party is in power.

we all belong to God. you were bought at a price.
They are the temple of the Lord.
It's a form of control and being raised we're supposed to be conditioned into thinking they do have the right or we simply choose to ignore it. In some cases it protects us but more so it hinders us. It's sad but it's there.
God created you. He also gave you the freedom of will to be able to make decisions.
You can do whatever you choose to do with your body.
I don't disagree with that, but you also have to look down the road. For instance, lots of states have helmet laws for motorcyclists because brain-injured people end up costing the state a lot of money. Yeah, it's your head, but people aren't just going to stand around and watch you bleed to death out your ears. There's a similar justification for making some drugs illegal (though nobody has ever ruined his life with marijuana!)

But also the state oversteps its bounds because of politics (like the laws against pot, even prostitution to some degree). And religious leaders over-reach all the time too. Because 'the people' are too easy to manipulate.
You're right. Its a concept called "freedom" - and extremely rare.

Its most often spoken about by politicians when they're removing it - like GW Bush and his "patriot" act!
I agree totally, we should be able to ride without helmets and smoke stuff. But if you are abusive to yourself, you might not think that it doesn't hurt any one else, when it does. The people who love you are the ones you hurt, Besides hurting yourself.
Government does not have "rights," it has POWERS. Back about 40 years ago, almost every single state in the country banned most abortions. Then the Supreme Court lied about the Constitution and proclaimed that all of the state laws were "unconstitutional."

Just like the states had the POWER to ban abortion before Roe v. Wade, the Supreme Court had the POWER to strike down the laws of the states.

And to whatever extent you raise a question like "why do state governments have a RIGHT to interfere with by body," I could just as easily ask "why does the Surpeme Court have the RIGHT to strike down state laws?"

State legislatures have the POWER to represent the people. That is what gives them the RIGHT to force you to obey their laws, .. unless and until the Surpeme Court misinterprets the Constitution again, like it did in Roe v. Wade.
Just ourselves
Well, the problem is that certain people will harm other human beings if they do certain things. For example, looking at child porn makes you likely to become a pedophile. You may not go out and become a pedophile, but other people who look at child porn might. So we, as a society, have to decide which is more important: to avoid infringing on the rights of the few people who can do it responsibly, or protect the victims of the majority who cannot do it responsibly.
While possessing power to do something does not imply the right to do something, the need to do something may arise.
These needs demand appropriate actions. To help with the burden of deciding what to do and when, governments are formed, and judges are appointed. When conflicts arise, it usually concerns these unaddressed and unattended needs, in one form or another. Neglect something long enough, and see if the problem doesn't tend to solve itself, in undesirable ways!

I notice you did not include harming yourself in your question. So I include some advice, and if it doesn't apply, then let it fly:

Remember you cannot benefit your neighbors if you are unable to attend to yourself. The responsibility goes both ways. Seek ways to maximize efficiency for yourself, and you should have something leftover for others: time, money, attention. Then stay alert for the needs of others, and when those opportunities arise, you will be there to offer assistance.
God.
