How does one do legal research on court cases from the 1800s?
With respect to state and federal cases that cannot be attained merely through a Google search, what is the best way to find the original opinions of the court for historical cases in the US?

You may have to pay to get access to Lexus or go to the nearest Law Library and use it there. That will also give you access to the librarian, who can share with you the best sources for the specific cases you want to deal with (for example, Georgia cases might only be in Georgia while New York cases might be more wide spread.)
You can always go into a University Library and check things in there...You can always pass off as a student.
Most law schools and state law libraries have case books that date back to the early 1800s. I am unaware of any current website that includes all of the old cases.
