A legal term for a siged statement?

It is a deposition. Any document that has a jurat at the bottom is a legal document. That is the portion at the bottom that says: "Sworn and subscribed to before me this ___day of ______, 2007." It will then be signed by either a notary public, or a judge, or attorney, or anyone authorized to witness your signature. You must sign in the presence of that person. If you want to swear out a document in front of witnesses, you must do that with a Notary Public present to insure it is proper and will be accepted by a court of law...
