Can I get federal employment with a general discharge (under honorable conditions)?
I already applied for the upgrade, but in my heart of hearts, I really dont think Im going to get it.
Answers:
Yes.
Military service counts for very little any more, and you only need to include it on your application if you are looking for preference points.
Hiring preferences are based more on gender and racial background than anything else. I was in the Dept. of Defense for 30 years, and preference there still is for females with Hispanic surnames.
When I went into federal service, competitive testing was the main factor, race the second and military service a distant third, but that was in the 70's
Yes, you just have to apply just like everyone else, but generally veterans get perference or it is on a point system and you begin with points where a civilian does not.
Yes you may the federal application states "if you have an honorable or general under honorable" put yes
