Why do people overlook all the good in a person's life for 1 bad thing they have done?
Accused criminals thrown in jail may have been good.
Up till that 1 crime they did.
Is it fear of the "criminal" that keeps them from ever thinking the person can ever be any good again?

its easier to throw stones than to bandage a wound. most of the best people i know have criminal records.... and they are not bad people just have records now andcan t get jobs due to the record so now they commit more criminal acts to keep food on the table tha does not make them bad. sometimes you gotta do bad in order to do good.
Not at all , but it's one of life's trusims that one aw crap wipes out 500 attaboys. You do the crime you do the time, & then start over w the opportunity to resume doing "good" things.

"accused criminals get thrown in jail"? if they are accused, they can be thrown in jail, but they have the right to due process, and can bond out if it is determined they are not a flight risk, but you have to pay.
if you are CONVICTED, then you get thrown in jail........until you get out.
as far as 1 crime, i have never heard of 1 strike, you're out.
i think its " 3 strikes, you're out" , unless its first degree murder or something.
You have a very good point. I shared that view about those that have served in jail until I began to get to know a lot of them in the past year. By and large they are good, reformed people who deserve a chance. Good luck.
"Good" people do not commit heinous crimes. period.
Look at OJ.
He entertained millions of people in his career. Then he murdered two people.
So he still qualifies as a good person? He only killed two people.............
Once people see what a person is capable of (by doing sometimes only ONE bad thing) that kinda says, "well, if he's/she's capable of doing this once, he/she could very possibly do it again."
Courts do have discretion in any case. The whole concept of "punishment" assumes that when someone makes a mistake, it is HOPED that the punishment will keep them from doing other crimes in the future. Unfortunately, for the majority of criminals, it is not working like it should.
Irregardless of the person's past good behavior, the court has to deal with what is NOW. From your message, I have to assume that this person did the crime.. so that has to be faced. There can be circumstances contributing, to be considered. Or is someone just using "circumstances" to avoid admitting the facts?
Can a person learn from, and regret mistakes? Sure. But that is a future thing that cannot be predicted reliably. It is up to the person to live up to that.
And everything depends on what the exact crime was.
Good and evil are not parallel to legal and illegal.
Sadly religion and Christian values have been largely removed from American values. Christ taught us to forgive, and we should all try and do just that. A person who paid his penalty to society should be forgiven but we are not perfect so we cant always do the correct thing. If you have two people who apply for a job and one has a criminal record and the other doesnt who would you hire? To err is human, to forgive divine. Sadly it is our imperfections as humans that stop us from forgiving what we should.
When you think of it, it's really the fear of the crime and not wanting to be victimize that we as people tend to fear. there is an old saying .."theres good in everybody and everybody can be up to no good". so, try and realize what was the circumstances surrounding the crme and what state of the criminals' mind at the time. Most of us never yeild to a need we see until a crime has been committed,then we say "I" or "THEY" instead. could there be good in president Bush, his Daughters, Mr. Clinton, etc., SHALL I NAME MORE... by the way, WHO is "GOOD".
