Why fight for peace?
Isn't that an oxymoron? I'm just curious as to why we have to solve problems with violence instead of diplomacy and education. Seriously, in the end no problems are solved with violence and war. When will we ever learn?

Nothing is gonna be won in Iraq and if Bush dose not act soon the same will happen in Afghanistan, why does our military have to kill so many civilians, they are starting to act like the Israeli Stormtroopers. Bush had no reason to attack Iraq and the writing is on the wall, that war is lost already, along with our dignity and plus giving basic training to thousands of guerrilla fighters in tha terrorist forces. America has never learned to fight a guerrilla war. In the Mexican war they won with 1,800 (KIA) in the Guerrilla war during the Occupation of Mexico, the Americans suffered 4,600 (KIA) and (2,800) MIA captured and presumed dead, instead of getting out with 1,800 (KIA) they lost the guerrilla war with 11,500 (KIA)

There are people out there that will continue to try and kill the west until everyone converts to their beliefs or dies.
War is the last resort, Reasoning and diplomacy have failed.
Nothing left but to kill them first or accept their terms.
That would seriously be nice. Unfortunately, the world isn't rainbows and sunshine. If diplomacy worked 100% of the time, the world would be great. Sometimes it simply doesn't. :(

I think it depends on the situation. You conquer the 'problem' with the right weapons. Use books where books are needed, use force where books aren't able to penetrate. Not all problems can be solved by diplomacy, and not all problems can be solved by violence. Nothing is absolute.
Your question is delicious! The reason we "fight" for peace is because it's profitable... so sad but true
so we should try to talk our problems out with terrorists, who believe they need to kill us to ascend into heaven? hmmm, i dont think that will work, if we tried your way of thinking, we would be Germany by now cuz Hitler would have stomped us and made us his country in WW2, but since people with a brain run most of the world, we build weapons and keep our civilization running smoothly, so you can pretend you dont have wars in your little dream world, but in the real world, wars and battles and death happens everyday, and it has since the first animals inhabited this earth, and nothing is going to change, plus its kind of hard for diplomacy and talking things out to work when the people who declare war on you crash themselves into our buildings.

War is what happens when diplomacy and education fail. We could always ignore the world's problems too, but then who would stand up for the tired, the weak, the huddled masses...well you get the picture. Not every country in the world is like America. It's not easy to just say "can't we all just get along." Just be glad you are in a country that is willing to protect it's own people instead of commiting mass genocide.
Great point. You know why, I think? Because I don't think policy planners in the United States really want peace... or democracy for that matter. Neoconservatives view as as the new Rome, and are fully content with using the military and war for corporate america's economic gain. They view violence projection as an apt and honorable tool, and I think the talk of peacein the middle east, or wherever, and democracy is largely used as a propaganda tool. We the citizens want it, policy lanners know it, so they cloak their actions with these terms, even though the intent is quite different. Wars keep this economy thriving. They subjugate economic competitors of the multinational companies that run our politicians. Violence is a perfectly effective tool, and they dont care about peace. Because it would be to castrate their capacity to dominate.
try explaining THAT to the extremist Muslims in the M.E., since they are the ones with the jihad against everyone in the world for not been "believers"!

Slavery
Genocide
Oppression
Freedom
Would you prefer that the Jews have been exterminated or blacks still held as slaves. The conditions and many other atrocities were solved by war. It is sometimes the only way.
When will the left ever learn that you cannot surrender your way to peace.
