i DONT' HAVE ONE, But I need one cus people is getting krazy!! u have to be 28 to get a rifle and 21 2 getting a hand gun
it all depends on what state you live in. All states you have to be atleast 18yrs old to purchase one. When you purchase a gun you will fill out paperwork and they will do your background check. You can usually take a rifle with you on that day, a hand gun usually takes 7-10 days or so to get the ok.
I think most states, you have to be 18 to actually purchase one yourself. Doesnt' mean you can't receive a shotgun as a gift at an earlier age, though. It would all depend on state.
Far as a "test", there is none, really, you may need to "pass" a Federal background check for Felony conviction, in my time ( 1980's ), I had to do none of that. Long as you have no serious criminal record, and are over age 18, you should have no problem buying a gun, depending on the state ( New York, it's illegal ). Good luck.
in california no felonies and to be an adult 21 +
look up the law in your state. i got my first gun when i was 14 s/w 38 still have it. it stayed under the pull down arm rest of my 58 Chevy for years. bought it at the local pawn shop for $10.00 . no test no permit, but that was years ago and in a small iron mining town. all my kids and my grand kids have been raised to respect , care for , and use a gun. there are classes you can take. clubs you can contact, Just remember guns don't kill.. people do.
I'm guessing you are referring to a handgun. www.packing.org has a lot of reliable information firearm ownership which is referenced state by state.
Federal law says 18 for a long gun, 21 to purchase a handgun. However some states have laws that are tougher. In IL for instance you must obtain a FID or a Firearms Identification card in order to purchase a gun. A few other states also have similar restrictions on your rights.
It depends greatly on what state you live in. In most instances, you simply have to be of the appropriate age and not have a felony conviction, any domestic violence charges or any history of mental illness or drug abuse. This will be verified, (as well as it can be) by a simple phone call the the NICS system.
To purchase one there is not generally a test. Just like you don't have to have a driver's license to drive a car. But in order to carry a pistol concealed, many states have training and fingerprinting requirements before you can get a permit.
