Where am I allowed to sail a model boat or fly a model aircraft?
Is a park OK
Answers:
I have lived in several states over the 30+ years of my modeling. I have flown in wilderness areas, parks, school yards, sanctioned club fields and private property. Pretty much the same for boats too. I have been asked to stop flying at a park one time due to some of the kids who were playing little league ball watching my plane instead of the baseball. I had no problem with that.
I have always asked permission when I went onto someone's property. I have only been refused permission about 4 or 5 times.
You may want to join th Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA) if you are going to do a lot of flying. They offer insurance for your activities. Also along with AMA membership you are allowed to participate in AMA sanctioned events. Every R/C club I have ever dealt with also required AMA membership to use their facilities because of the insurance coverage.
If you have homeowners insurance, it may cover you as well. I checked with my insurance agent and I was informed that the policy I had actually covered any hobby activity I participated in. I am sure this will vary from company to company.
I have had th most problems when dealing with clubs. They can be difficult to deal with sometimes because like the rest of life there can be people who feel they are "exclusive" or they can be just generally "unfriendly". I have even been to club sites where they can only use their field 1 or 2 days a week.
My best advice is check out the local hobby shops and clubs, find some fun folks and enjoy one of the best hobbies in the world!
Model boat - sail in water. Model aircraft - fly in sky
Anywhere where you will not be endangering other people.
should be OK with the boat in the park but in UK you need to have insurance for the plane and can only been flown in designated areas
As far as boats are concerned ones with sails are tolerated most anywhere but there are lakes that do need special permission and usually only for clubs. Powered boats usually require a lake or stretch of water that has been sanctioned by the local modelling club. Likewise with model aircraft, most flying clubs have their own flying field. You might (just) get away with a small electric plane in a park. Bottom line is join your local club and get advice.
Combination of sea planes that sail and fly .
to be perfectly honest no hard and fast rules apply in the UK
YOU ARE FREE to fly your model aircraft almost anywhere you like but you have to take consideration of endangering other ppl. yes in certain circumstances a park is ok as long as no local byelaws forbid it. it all boils down to commonsense. as for boats the same applies any river or stream or lake with permission from the owners
