How much can i sue for?

My brother was chased down the block by a small dog, and the dog bit him on the left leg. The owner of the dog, intentionally let the dog go saying "Bit him" 3 times. But the owner is in denial, this happened on 7/31/07, and i am planning to sue. I live in new york city, and my brother is 5 1/2. I called the police, and they got the report, and the Doctors said to call there vet and get there info, so if i do sue, im planning to sue for Violation, and some more stuff

If everything works out, how much money should i get from the lawsuit?

It's ok if you cannot provide a exact number, im looking for a estimate, please tell me what will happen, and how much should i get...Thank you

PS the owner of the dog is about 13-14

And the mother is always in denial

Answers:
Im not sure. Usually in cases like this the owner looses the dog. I think this would have more of an impact on the child more than it would to sue him. I would think it would be best to only seek the "dismissal" of the dog and money for any bills you receive as a result of the attack (medical, emotional, etc).

You can sue for exactly squat. Okay, maybe less.

You weren't bitten. You aren't his parent. You're a witness. Our legal system is pretty screwed up, but we haven't yet reached the point where witnesses can sue.

Have your mother get back to us, perhaps she has a case.
Your parents need to speak to an attorney for this. If you can prove your claim you may be able to get more than if it is just your word against your neighbor.

However, with your neighbor being so young, your chances are lower. Kids do stupid things.
you will have to sue the mother she.s the adult in this matter and id responsable for him as well the dog yu might start in small clams court and get a lawer who excepts a fee only . that takes cases win there won. no one can give yoiu a exact amount but the more medical bills the more you be granted . my honest opion? another thing the mother being in denial will go in your favor . ?
if your brother got bit why are you suing
you wont get much you will get the cost of the medical bill's times 2 for pain and suffering your best bet is to do what most kids do chalk it up to experience and dont go near the dog or neighbor again and remember if you go to court both sides of the story will come out so if you did anything to provoke the dog you may wind up with nothing
You wouldn't be able to sue, unless you were the guardian of your brother.

The amount your BROTHER could get will depend on his injuries.

But you can't just make money off this. I know when my cousin got hurt at a Chuck E. Cheese type place, he got about 80 K - which goes into an account for him when he is 21 or 18. He is 14 now... it happened when he was 5.

The money in there can be used some to fix his teeth - which got messed up from the accident. But this has to be approved by his mom and she has to show reciepts to get the money back
