How do you check out your lawyer?

I have hired a lawyer, felt good about him,but I don`t understand him saying if I stop working or get fired he can`t help me anymore. They could fire me for some reason or another. I fell confussed.I hurt to much to work.I need help,I was told this after the doc. released me to full time duty.

In most states a client has the absolute right to the lawyer of his choice. If you are unhappy with your current representation, feel free to look around for another lawyer. The new lawyer may have to work out a deal with the old one to get your file and possibly split the fee, but these are everyday issues that usually get worked out.

If you want to just check up on your lawyer to see whether he has gotten into any trouble, you can go to the local licensing body for lawyers in your state (typically an arm of the court or the office of court administration). You can then find out whether the lawyer has ever been suspended or censured or even if he still has a license.

He is just looking for your money. All he wants is to make sure that you can pay him. Fire him.
I'm not really understanding what you're asking. What did you hire a lawyer for?

Is he saying he wouldn't be able to help you because not working would impact your claim (the reason you hired the lawyer)? If so, ask him to explain that to you and give you the law behind it.

Or is he saying it because it would impact your ability to pay him? That's a valid concern, but most plaintiffs' lawyers are paid on a contingency basis out of the settlement or judgment. Many workmen's comp and personal injury attorneys have clients who are unable to work at all, so attorneys taking those types of cases wouldn't find having an unemployedd client unusual.

Or is there something else going on that makes you concerned about his veracity or responsiveness? That would be a state bar grievance issue. Google the lawyer disciplinary board in your state.

And if you hurt too much to work, but your doctor released you to full time duty, maybe you need to return to your doctor for a reevaluation.
is this with regards to an employment case ?
i think the lawyer may be saying to you that you will not win your case if you voluntary quit the job or if you get fired because you do something on the job that gives the employer a reason to fire you ??

it's hard to tell from what you have written . most lawyers are out for your money and when that runs out they are gone.

HI , well if you cant pay this laywer is why hes saying if you gt fired he cant help you. you wont beable to afford to pay him. some laywers are that way. you dont ahve income that wont even bother with you. If you arent able to work because of your health you should apply for social security. If a dr tells you that your unable to work because of helath problems you may gt the disability. Id have to know more about your situation your health and stuff before i can actually tell you more to help you. . If your not able to work full time duty i dont see why the dr released you. If your in too much pain and arent able to do your duties the dr shouldnt have released you. You can go to the internet and check out your laywer and or if you know ppl who have had him you can ask around if hes any good. things like that. i hope your well soon. take care.
Do not pay him the full amount until your case is over and done with. The word of mouth ---- find an attorney that has helped someone you know. They are a crooked bunch.......
