Is it wrong to end one's life?

It is the current imagining of the majority of people on your planet that it is "not okay" to do that.Similarly, many of you still insist that it is not okay to assist another who wishes to end his or her life. In both cases you say this should be "against the law." You have come to this conclusion, presumably, because the ending of the life occurs quickly. Actions which end a life over a somewhat longer period of time are not against the law, even though they achieve the same result. Thus, if a person in your society kills himself with a gun,his family members lose insurance benefits. If he does so with cigarettes, they do not. If a doctor assists you in your suicide, it is called manslaughter, while if a tobacco company does, it is commerce. With your society, it seems to be merely a question of time. The faster the death, the more wrong it seems to be.The slower the death, the more it slips into Okayness. It is no more immoral to kill yourself quickly than it is to kill yourself slowly

Answer:
this is a tough question.

I think if you have a physical condition where your life was only going to get worse, and you were in pain, you should have a choice in either 1. living 2. choosing to die with dignity

the insurance companies are just horrible people that try to get out of paying anything for anything. is their a presidential candidate that is going to get rid of insurance companies? He's got my vote if there is.

have you ever heard of a relative die from a slow disease, and the family feels "relieved" when they pass on? It damages the persons memory, and whatever they could leave to the family is ate up in mediacl costs.

it should not be mandatory, but medical euthanasia should be an option when there is no hope in surviving

if you read te bilble it is called suicide and wrong.
that is true. maybe because cigarettes dont kill everyone? some people live very long and die because of old age and not cigarettes.
You keep saying your planet and your world , where are you from Pluto ?and if your so concerned about smoking then by all means 'DON'T DO IT ! , and stop your role playing. If you want to end your life , well I guess that's your concern , but I do think you should seek help real soon , you need it.....
Interesting thought process.

The reason behind it is that the quick deaths are usually desired, whereas the long, drawn out ones are not. It's the thought of wanting death that people fear, and thus want to put laws against it. I'm fairly certain that if someone went around telling people that they were chain smoking so they could die that people would send them to a hospital, mental or otherwise.
Quick action is usually seen as direct, and many Western religions speak against committing suicide, which is a quick way to end one's life.
It is OK for you to kill yourself. It is not OK for your famaily to live with the stigma for life.
To take your life or to assist another is immoral. We as humans are unique and each of us has a purpose here.
It is a selfish act with a ripple effect lasting a long time.
Your argument blaming a company product is lame, we as individuals have freedom of choice.
It is called accepting the consequences for your actions.
If you have any type of faith, higher power, what ever, there is a judgment regarding what you did while alive, a worse one for suicide.
No it is not ok. Only God can choose the hour and seconds of a human life. We can not act as a God, but it is our duty to help the individual have a comforting life up until that final moment. There is a God and in the Holy Bible, which is the word of God, it says. Thou Shalt Not Kill. It is the fifth Commandment. To Kill is to take or shorten someones life, and also to bear haterd to anyone. Life is God's most precious gift to all living creatures. You can not take the gift of life away from anyone. Even if they ask you to do it, you need to explain with Love to the person asking, that it is only God, who can call us home. Only He can decide that. We are to help and befriend the person, who is near death or dying. He/she who willfully takes his/her own life cuts off his/her chance to repent , and is forever lost. Yes, it is wrong.
The law is not always right. Do I need to elaborate?
I didn't think so... anyway:
The point is, that your body BELONGS to you. It is a posetion of YOURS, not your mothers, not the doctors, not the priests.
Its called SELF DETERMINISM.
But here on Earth...
it gets taken away very easily, in fact, it starts when you are a child, you get told when you are allowed to play and not, when you can stand up and not, you almost need to ask for permision to live. Since you have a small body, anyone can take advantage of you, so when you get told to shut up, after a few beatings, you no longer fight for your rights to do what YOU want with YOUR body.
