Do you think Congress should seek special prosecution in the Gonzales case?
Apparently no one else will be allowed to testify and they can't really go to the Justice Dept. so whats next?
Answers:
A special prosecutor can only be attempted (and it would be tricky without going through the DoJ) if their are reasonable grounds to believe a law has been broken.
From what I've seen, Gonzales amended his testimony to avoid a perjury charge -- so no easy way to go after him.
However, he has demonstrated sufficient unethical actions and lack of competence in his ability as AG --- whether be broke the law or not -- for Congress to initiate impeachment proceedings. Violation of his ethical obligations as an attorney qualifies under the impeachment procedures as a misdemeanor.
No. I think if Congress has not found anything yet, they never will. It is a waste of our time and our tax money. Bush is dead-on in forcing Congress to go to court.
