No Diplomas for Cheering at Commencement?
I think that this is an outrage. Give the kids their diplomas in Galesburg, Illinois! Thoughts/Comments?
Answers:
I too think its outrageous. We have been having a controversy in our area also about too many demonstrations and cheering going on when a graduate has been called to the stage to receive their diploma. Though diplomas have not been withheld, the schools have been warning parents and students that demonstrations will not be tolerated. Lots of people write into the local papers letterbox complaining about the cheering. As long as it is just a short, quick little outburst, I don't see anything wrong with it. Parents are just happy that their kids made it. I know when my daughter graduated, we had a bell that we clanged 4 or 5 times quickly and clapped really loud and then we were done. It did nothing to interfer with the next graduate called onto the stage.
Could you provide some background information? It sounds pretty ridiculous, but I don't actually know the story.
a diploma cannot be withheld for this reason unless it is written down in the school's bylaws and the info was distributed prior to commencement.
I read about this story and there are two ways to view it:
1. What a shame the kids can't have a paper representation to show they graduated.
2. The families were warned ahead of time what the consequences would be should they have an outburst. It's not as if they had no idea. They chose their own destiny.
