What do I do next?
I have tried to reason with a coworker through a mediator. She has told lies about me and tried to get me fired by saying I'm stalking her and keeping her from doing her job. I have absolutely no contact with her so I don't know how this could be. I have went to her boss to ask him to speak to her about the issues. All he says is that she is not doing it and if I let things be it will go away. Well, it hasn't. She is still telling lies to coworkers about me. I then went to Human Resources to file a claim about her behavior. Again I was told to let it go because filing a claim would only make things worse. She has made my job unbearable because of the constant interrogations when she claims I have done something to her. I don't even work in the same dept. as she does. Leaving my job isn't really an option. I am at my wits end with all this. Any suggestions?

You have my sympathy. I have been in a similar situation. It obviously seems that your own company is not willing to help you. It sounds fishey. Perhaps there is something else going on to make them unwililng to confront this woman. IF you havent allready, Document all these things. Write down time, date, place, people and excaclty was what said and what happened. Especially when it comes to the interaction with HR and bosses. This is important for legal matters. They have an obligatoin to look into these kinds of issues.
Contacts your area's EEOC or the equal employment opportunity commision. They should find this interesting and be able to either help you or advise you on the proper state agency who's job it is to deal with workplace harassment and intimidation. (this is where it becomes important to document) Your place of employment is definately liable.
