Where can I get information regarding a local case?

How can I see the documents used, notes taken etc., in a particular case near my hometown? Can I go through the county court somehow? What information is public and what is not?

Answer:
If you have the docket number, can do to the County Courthouse and review the documents; if you want photocopies they can provide them but is usually expensive; it is $ page where I live.

Any publically recording documents/filings are available. If it has been several years ago and the documents are in storage, you can also be charged in advance the document retrieval fee for the box it is stored in (where I live, $35).
