Can a person check your credit without your knowledge?
I think someone in my family is checking my credit sometimes without me knowing about it. Is this legal if you don't have any business relations with that person?

They would have to have your DOB and SSN. Does anyone in your family have access to this info? At any rate, they should have your permission - as it is illegal to pose as another person. (Online, they would be pretending to be you).
Only Businesses can check your credit score legally and by giving them your personal info you are giving them permission.
Hmm, a business can check your credit without your knowledge, but usually only if you have some sort of business contact with them. I don't think a regular person can check it, at least not legally. If they have your SSN they may be able to get some info on you. Why they would want to is beyond me. What you should do is contact one of the credit bureaus (equifax, transunion, and experian) and find out what credit inquiries are on your report. If they are not legit, report it.

no it is not legal. you can put a alert on your credit report with a password so when someone tries to enter your info they have to call to verify the info. it is not hard to get someones credit report, when the info you need is easy to get all you need is a name ss number and last address. thats it. and you can get it for free online.

Thats what the information hiway is all about! If your willing to pay for the resources you can find out the temperature of my butt without me knowing about it. But for someone to legally access that information, I think you would have to be appling for a loan and have signed a waiver allowing them to check out your credit history and any other pertinent information.
Seriously if you really want to know the legality of it then ask the Attorney Generals office in your state, they deal alot with these things.
