What is the minimum age to move out?
I'm 17 years old. Neither of my parents are here to sign any papers, I live with my grandparents. They are not my legal guardians. I am not in school, I have a G.E.D. I have the money to move out, but will I be able to legally?
Answers:
Think through your choices. Yes, you can file for emancipation from your grandparents in court. But the law states that you can not legally enter into a contract until you are 18. So where will you live? What will you do in a fast paced city like Chicago? Jobs are difficult to find even for people even for over 18, what plans have you made? Chicago's economy is extremely higher than anywhere in Alabama. Low income areas have a high crime rate (which means they also have a high victim rate). Be careful and take it slow.
If you're 17 then you can legally move out without the consent of your parents. You will be considered "emancipated" because your [grand]parents will no longer be supporting you.
So if you're 17, think clearly of your choice, and if it is the true choice you want to make, then move out. Good luck!
Your not a legal adult until your 18, Good Luck!!
you can legally move out when you are 17, however, your parents are responsible if you do anything stupid until you are 18...
You could file for the legal rights of an adult and then go out on your own. I don't know how to do it but some people less than 18 years have done it. You need legal advice to manage this.
i believe it is legal. because kids can be disowned at 16. i'm pretty sure you will be able to move out. Chicago is lovely. I hope you love your decision!
The only problem I see is where are you planning on living?? I don't think you can enter into a legal contract with a landlord until you are 18.
Good luck.
You can move out, the courts will have to allow it. I would wait until you turn 18 yrs old. Most of the time when you sign agreements such as leases for rent, accounts, etc. they ask if your 18 yrs of age. Save your money and wait until your birthday, but start looking for an apartment 4 months before your b-day so you can have everything in place.
you can legally get emancipated from your parents but you have to show proof that you can live on your own and provide for yourself (food shelter clothing etc.) if you do choose to do this then good luck!!
