Why is suicide illegal?
I understand that Suicide is a bad thing, but why is it illegal? I've read on some other posted questions that the Government Owns your body and can throw you in jail if you failed to kill yourself, is that true?
I mean, whats the punishment to someone who commits suicide? Are they really going to throw a dead body in jail?
"Everybody has his/her own rights" why doesn't this affect whether people choose to live or die?
I just don't see why its illegal.
Answers:
Yes I believe in most states it is against the law.
i dont no...b/c if they r gonna take u to jail 4 it u cant cuz u r dead!i dont get it either...
Just don't screw it up and you're untouchable.
There just trying to stop suicidals from suiciding
its a type of murder, failed suicide is attempted murder
That's the first time I heard of it being illegal. Just do it, what are they gonna do hang you?
what are you like 14 years old? Youll get buried and no you will most likely go on suicide watch if you attempt but fail suicide and be prepared so spend time in a mental facility.
i'm guessing it was a law implemented by insurance companies so they don't have to pay on a policy where the guy/gal off's themself.
It's not illegal in the US. I've checked the statutes and case law of all fifty states. Only two even mention that it should be illegal (in case holdings), but both of those are 1940s and 1950s decisions based on religious dogma -- explicitly in the text, it says that because religion forbids it that ends the debate. Those precedents would not be enforced.
Attempted suicide is illegal in some jurisdictions, because the state asserts an overriding right to control your behavior.
because it is murder. What is the difference rather you kill your self or someone else.
Suicide is not illegal.
No government owns anyone's body.
We all have the right to choose life or death.
Religion
It doesn't make sense to me either. They won't punish someone who has attempted suicide, they may try to push you into therapy, but certainly not jail (unless you were trying to kill other people in the process).
First of all, where did you find that its Illegal? Because its not.
Me niether, if you wanted you could just starve yourself in jail.
In the US, it is no longer illegal. In other countries, I have no clue. A possible justification for this is that people who fail in their attempt are psychotic and do not want them walking the streets.
It's sad. For so many it's about quality of life years not quantity of life years.
If I were in a situation similar to some folks we hear about on the news, I would most definitely want the option to be left up to me and not my government.
Because government has no control over people if you take away its power of life and death.
You don't get thrown in jail for attempted suicide! You get an ambulance and a free ride to the hospital for a psychiatric evaluation. As a member of a first aid squad, I routinely have to take these people to the hospital. As for successful suicide, I think that it's pretty hard to impose penalties for that.
Its illegal to kill..Including yourself. If you dont succeed.you will go to jail because its attempted suicide, meaning atemt to kill.If you do succeed God my send you somwhere other than heaven,Because that is also one of the ten comandments, thow shalt not kill,Our nation is built on budissim and christianissim back from our fore fathers.do a little more research on stuff like that,Its very interesting.
even though ur not killing sum1 else ur still doing it to someone
You are absolutely right. It is a ridiculous notion that is rooted in irrational religions.
Wish I knew the answer. Ask the government. but seriously i do wish i knew the answer to that because they say it's a free country but how can it be if a person can't do anything to themselves. like in europe if you use, make drugs for yourself it's legal but if you sell it it's illegal. I think they throw you in jail so they make sure that they don't lose you just to get more money out of you and use it however they want not for things that are needed.
