Relative got a parking ticket, should I help pay it?

I recently went to California to visit a relative. We were going site seeing, and were looking for parking. We came upon a parking garage, and it was 15.00. I told her to park in the garage and I would play the fee. She decided instead to look around some more and we found a parking space in a 2 hour zone. I told her that we may be gone longer than 2 hours and I thought it was better to park in the garage. She parked in the 2 hr zone anyway. After 2 hours I reminded her at least 5 times that we need to go and move the car the time was up. She went back and forth about it and finally said she didn't really worry about it, and the ticket shouldn't be that much. I felt uncomfortable with this. When we got back she had a 50.00 ticket on the car. I felt bad for her cause she really have a lot of bills and really can't afford this but at the same time I told her not to do it ( even her husband said she should have listened to me) and told her time was up. Should I help pay it?

Answer:
Geez so she did you a favor, but ultimately she is responsible for what she does with her car.

You are worrying too much about it. If it would make you feel better then offer half the amount.

But really, it is up to her to check her vehicle. If you told her to park on the edge of a cliff I'm sure she wouldn't, she can make her own mind up.

Don't you worry it wasn't your fault or mistake.

Because you offered to pay for the garage parking ahead and she made a choice not to park there anyway I would say don't pay the ticket and don't worry about it.
Pay $15 of it since you were going to spend that much on the garage anyhow. If you have more cash to spare than her then go ahead and pay more, but if you're also strapped for cash then you're not obligated to pay more given the situation.
The way you describe her, she doesnt care about repsonsibility, maybe thats why she really cant afford the ticket.

It sounds like she needs a huge dose of reality, I would let her pay the ticket, its not your fault she didnt listen to you
That's a crappy situation. On the surface I want to say, don't pay for it, but the tiny bit of compassion and human loyalty in me says you should help out.

Wait...I got it. Give her $15.00
The same situation happened to my friend and me. I didn't help him pay, since (1) I warned him and (2) he earns more than me. Your responsibility for the fine is minimal: maybe you should have insisted more, but your relative should have considered your words more carefully the first time, without making u repeat it over and over. If you decide to help her pay the fine, it's up to you. You shouldn't think of it as an admission of guilt, simply as a n act of kindness that has nothing to do with getting the ticket, but is only considerate of her financial situation.
too bad you guys share the same genes, she sounds like a complete airhead. Let her worry about it.
here is the bottom line...she lives here is california...she knows how we operate.

my opinion is she is IRRESPONSIBLE.and if you pay her ticket or assist her (nice gesture)...but you will only be adding to her irresponsibile behavior.

you warned her. :)

good luck
Morally, no you are not obligated based on what you said. But as a kind gesture, I would pay it for her.
I would not want to pay it, but if it was someone who I loved, I would overlook her foolish choices and pay it for her. Especially, if she needed me to. I have made stupid decisions in the past & people who cared about me bailed me out. So, I am passing on the love.
