Legalize weed?

So, this question goes out to all you little cretins who want to legalize it and tax it. Can you explain to me how you're going to prevent the millions of accidents and fatalities that will happen because people are driving around high? Or are you running on the assumption that legalizing something magically makes it a safe substance? Seriously, I'd really like to know... So explain this concept of this magical "safe" hallucinogenic substance, if you will...

Answers:
Well I am not one of those "cretins" as you call them, but I think legalizing it is a bad idea. First, it would just make it easier for the addicts to buy and for the children to become addicts. Secondly, why give the gov't something else to tax heavily and line crooked pockets at the expense of our children. Thirdly, I too am interested in why others seem to think it is "safe". If the weed doesn't kill them, the dealers that are losing money will.

I don't understand how that's a factor. I mean, the government has no problems keeping alcohol legal, and I don't think even the most deluded of people could claim that alcohol doesn't cause accidents and driving fatalities. What's more, alcohol is involved in many non-driving deaths and accidents, and causes people to become much more violent than marijuana does.

Can you justify the legalization of alcohol, since it's obviously a contributing factor to hundreds of thousands of deaths each year?
what?
isn't it already legal?
Legal alcohol which is a MUCH greater hazard and impairment to driving than marijuana is doesn't seem to bother you however. That's odd, if it's really the public safety you're concerned with.

Ok, since it's illegal to drive intoxicated, is there some reason we can't make it illegal to drive stoned? Do you REALLY imagine that we can't come up with a test to determine if a driver is under the influence of marijuana or not? Because IF you actually think we can't, it shouldn't be hard to find the little cretin in YOUR household.
I'm against marijuana, alcohol, or any type of drug that will affect your senses. I don't think it should be legalized, gives easier access to the people that use it, increasing chances of having more and more people wanting to use it.
That's all I have to say, don't want to get into a discussion, I already have enough of those at home, and if I keep having them, most likely my home will have to be divided.
Like alcohol is legal and there are no deaths from drinking and driving?!? Control it, the manufacture, distribution, and the use of it! It's a hell of a lot safer than alcohol! Besides, look at the studies done on teens in driving simulators in England. What's more dangerous, something that makes you paranoid and over observant about your surroundings, and cautious? Or the phone that takes one hand off the wheel and takes all your attention from the task at hand: a 2 ton vehicle moving at lethal speeds?!? I've never hallucinated off marijuana, if you smoke too much, you get the munchies real bad, then take a nap!
TAX IT? Seriously, it's weed... are they supposed to go door to door and count how many plants you have and tax accordingly??
I'd legalize it. Why? becaue I'm sick of all the hippie advocates always complaining, campaigning and communing. Think about it they'd have nothing left to talk about. Life would be so much better hear in northern California. Is it possible to make ethanol gas out of it?
Interesting question.

As far as I'm concerned, marijuana, alcohol, cigarettes, and even sugar are toxic, addictive substances and should be banned. OTOH, we've seen that banning these things and making them illegal does NOT stop the demand, and simply makes criminals rich. And I wonder if making marijuana legal would really increase the number of high drivers by that much?

People often mention the more liberal drug laws in many European countries, but I don't think that's the answer either. Some people quote statistics that people in (Sweden?) are actually less likely to use drugs, but I think that's a factor of just how bad things are allowed to get. I was on an internet forum with a member from Norway, and he was amazed at how many Americans "used to" do drugs. He said that everyone he grew up with that did drugs was now dead. I think that that's because people who do drugs there are allowed to get more deeply into it due to it's acceptability. So there may be less people currently using drugs, but that's because they're more likely to die off as a result.

I'm not sure what the solution is, perhaps legalize it and tax the heck out of it but increase the social stigma a la smoking and drunk driving? Right now many people see marijuana as "harmless".
