Why do British banknotes have a copyright notice?
I mean, forgery is illegal anyway, are they going to do you for forgery AND copyright violation?

Forgery requires that the person make fake notes that he/she intends to pass as real.
Copyright prohibits any use of any part of the banknote.
So, if someone wished to copy the entire banknote or just the Queen's portrait from the banknote, and blow it up to poster size, with a mustache, and sell multiple posters; that would not be forgery, (because the poster sized thing would not be passable as a real banknote; but would violate the copyright.
