To catch a predator?
How can the police prosecute some of the offenders they catch from the show? It is not illegal have expicit chat with girls over 18. All the girls on the show are over 18, they just pretend to be younger. So actually the predators are talking to girls 18 years of age, how is that illegal?

there are two laws at work in the united states, those they will enforce and prosecute and those they don't.
When you run into something like this loop hole, the powers that be create laws such as the horse act of Wyoming. That law, from the old west, said if you think you are buying something, and the seller is lying, he is liable for damages for selling you a false product.
That is the basis for many of the laws you see being worked. The preditor has entered into a contractual agreement which by law, is illegal, engaging in sexual talk with the minor for the purpose of physical contact. That is a serious crime.
Lets look at the defense of this, The guy can claim he knew she was over 18...but the text of the chats will undo him, as he will probably ask probing questions that will demonstrate that he was trying to not get caught...
my own thoughts are that no defense exists. The guys are nailed.going to the big house.
Because those overage girls posed as young teenagers between 13-15. The men came to have relations with what they believed to be was a young teenager.
Because they are chatting with someone they believe to be a minor for the express purpose of engaging that minor in intercourse. They are therefore attempting to molest, a crime.

Yeah, but the guys don't think the girls are over 18, they think the girls are 13, 14, 15 and they get off on that. The show hires girls who look young because using underage girls is unethical. Besides, just talking like that online to young girls is illegal-it's soliciting.
It all comes down to intent. If they INTENDED to have sex with someone who they BELIEVED to be underage, then they should have their nuts cut off!
The predators act on information given to them that the girls are under 18. I, for one, am glad they are doing it and hope they keep it up. Lock up all the pervs and put em away.

The girls on there are decoys...the men intended to be with an underage girl when they go to the houses. Some of the men have even sent nude photos of themselves to these girls or boys they thought were 12, 13, 14 years old.
It's because the predators believe in their pants that they are talking to under aged girls. It does not matter how old the girls really are. It's how old they are believed to be.
To answer your question those guys believe they are 12 ,13 etc yr. old kids. Its not illegal to probably to talk to them (but its real sick in the head and sinful). They agreed to meet them(little kids) for sex which is 100% illegal and a federal felony.
If i had my way about it anyone found 110% guilty of a crime to or agianst a child would get the max penalty period.
