Does the bible say specifially which levitical laws were replaced by the new covanent and which were not?
This is a purely scriptural question. Does it say somewhere in the bible that the deitary, dress, and worhsip laws are not part of the new covanant, but all the marriage, divorce, and homosexual stuff still needs to be followed?
Answers:
Deep question.
Jesus lived a sinless life as a man on earth - anyone with God's Law written in their heart can live sinlessly. Trouble is, that part of the covenant has not been enacted yet. It will take effect after the 2nd coming, when there is peace on earth.
Meanwhile, God's Laws still show our sin & call us to repentance. God's Laws are perfect; God doesn't change; God's Laws don't change.
Search on online Bible for the word "abomination" and see what God abhors - what the unchanging God cannot tolerate.
The mainstream denominations blissfully follow Emperor Constantine & the Popes. Constantine co-opted Christianity for his own empire mammon. The endtimes Great Deception has been going on for a long time - people are eager to get the cheap & easy grace promoted by the Great Deceiver & his minions.
Those who get to the White Throne and hear "Depart ye doer of iniquity" (a majority of mainliners, I fear) will respond, "But we did everything Constantine told us to do...." i.e. Sunday Sabbath, Christmas holiday, Easter holiday, etc.
Why not follow the Messiah who was the Word of God in the OT, who was the incarnate Son of God, who followed all of God's Laws, and explained God's Laws?
Back to the Covenant - there are a handful of covenants in the Bible (not just an Old & a New) - they are all given to Israelites for Israelites. If you want to be a part of it, you must be grafted into the root of Israel. The Covenants do not supersede each other. What is referred to as the Old Covenant failed in the sense that the Israelites in the desert professed that they would follow God & God's Laws... but a few days later made a golden calf. That broke the covenant. That is why a new covenant was needed. The New Covenant is written in the Blood of Jesus; if you are covered with the Blood of Jesus on Judgment Day, you will be judged righteous by the Grace of God.
THE CATCH THAT ALMOST ALL XIANS MISS (I hope I got your attention) is that the "law" of the Covenant didn't change; the same Laws apply. Why? Because God & His Laws are perfect & unchanging.
Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, et al were all saved by Grace (NOT by ~works~ as deceivers would have you believe), just as people today are saved. NO DIFFERENCE!
You have to read throughout the new testament to see what Jesus and the Apostles say as they relate to the old testament laws. The reinterpretation of how the levitical laws are changed are spread throughout the new testatment.
1. there would be "no more sacrifice for sins" - i forgot the reference..this is becasue the atonement on the fross replaced the animal sacrifices...
2. Jesus said he came to fulfill the law, not destroy it, so we are still to obey the law. It is for our own good. It notes somewhere about "should we still sin so grace can abound? God forbid." This passage, and surrounding verses, means the act of forgiveness does not give us permission to disobey the law. We are to be motivated out of love to keep the law. Before the motivation was more out of duty.
Yes, you will find the scripture you are looking for in John 15:10-12. Jesus came to fulfill the Levitical law and left us only a few to follow. I have done a detailed study in the Source link below. Read it to fully understand.
But in regard to your specifics regarding marriage, divorce, and homosexuality... these are not Old Testament, they are dealt with by Paul in the new as well. Now the dietary, sacrificial laws--yes, the study will specifically point out why this is so.
Good question.
The Levitical law was needed so that God’s chosen people would remain faithful to him. It was a standard that they needed to uphold and when they didn’t they went to the priest and presented an animal to be sacrificed for their sins. This obedient act brought them back into relationship with God.
When Christ became the everlasting and once-for-all sacrifice, he fulfilled the need for the law. Now we have the Holy Spirit who writes the law on our heart. As we surrender ourselves and allow our flesh to die, abide in Christ and are filled with the Holy Spirit, we have a new standard.
One of the many scriptures that speaks of this fulfillment is Galatians 5:
5:1 It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.
2 Mark my words! I, Paul, tell you that if you let yourselves be circumcised, Christ will be of no value to you at all. 3 Again I declare to every man who lets himself be circumcised that he is obligated to obey the whole law. 4 You who are trying to be justified by law have been alienated from Christ; you have fallen away from grace. 5 But by faith we eagerly await through the Spirit the righteousness for which we hope. 6 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision has any value. The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love.
7 You were running a good race. Who cut in on you and kept you from obeying the truth? 8 That kind of persuasion does not come from the one who calls you. 9 "A little yeast works through the whole batch of dough." 10 I am confident in the Lord that you will take no other view. The one who is throwing you into confusion will pay the penalty, whoever he may be. 11 Brothers, if I am still preaching circumcision, why am I still being persecuted? In that case the offense of the cross has been abolished. 12 As for those agitators, I wish they would go the whole way and emasculate themselves!
13 You, my brothers, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature; rather, serve one another in love. 14 The entire law is summed up in a single command: "Love your neighbor as yourself." 15 If you keep on biting and devouring each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other. NIV
There are many more. One of the greatest books that really explains this awesome gift is The Blood of Christ by Andrew Murray.
