How do i get my record expunged in California?

How do I go about getting my criminal record expunged in San Francisco, California? How long would it take? How much would it cost? Thanks in advance.

Answers:
If you successfully completed probation, you can apply for what California CALLS "expungement," though it is not what you might think. It does not remove the conviction from your record, it can still be used as a prior, etc. However, it does have some benefits, and you can say that "A charge of X was dismissed pursuant to Penal Code section 1203.4."

Unless there is something odd in your circumstances, you can file the petition yourself, there is a link below to the Judicial Council site on this. Although it is illegal to charge a fee, lots of courts are ignoring the law and you might have to pay around $60 to file the petition unless you can show you cannot afford that.

I don't think your record can be expunged unless it was as a juvenile. Any crime you did will follow you your whole life - that's called a criminal record and the police have good reason to know what you did in the past.
Best luck, and keep your nose clean. Just because you have a criminal record doesn't mean you can't do anything or no one will ever hire you, just certain jobs.
