What if I believe there was conflict of interest in a hearing I was involved in and can't reach my lawyer?
I understand after the fact, that the judge and my husbands attorney were very good friends. That when my husband went into the courtroom in Alabama for the custody hearing I was debating via telephone from Colorado, he was given a hug by the judge.

Most judges are lawyers. They have friends who are lawyers. This does not make for a conflict of interest in and of itself. If your lawyer feels there is one he should file an appropriate motion to disqualify the judge.
Why were you not present in Court? Seems that staying in Colorado may have hurt you, particularly since you say it was a custody hearing.
Prove it. Most likely you can't AND you can't prove that they are close personal friends. Can you prove that EVEN IF, they are close personal friends, that a conflict exists and that his decisions were not fair and impartial?
Oh, but your question is about not reaching your lawyer. Sorry, you're **** out of luck. You can only do ANYTHING with your lawyer. Doing something by yourself is not only stupid, but the opposing attorney and judge, by law, may not talk directly to you, since you are represented by counsel.
PS. If you raise this sort of objection and are wrong, you are likely to really screw yourself.
