What are some cases in which the U.S. judicial system has given someone the death sentence.?

and then it turned out that the person killed was innocent?

I need a recent case, preferably from the 1990's until today.

There have been no proven cases, usually since after the sentence is carried out, the physical evidence is disposed of.
Look to the state of Illinois. Everyone on death row had their sentence changed by the governor because of the EXTREMELY high # of innocent people put to death.
