Why is the government allowed to say what i can do in the privacy of my own home?

just because you dont agree with something doesnt mean it should be illegal. isnt that what our country is based on. people didnt think black and white people should live together and women shouldnt vote but those things change. why cant i marry a man or get a ******** or smoke a joint. it doesnt hurt you, it doesnt effect you, you dont even have to know its happening.

Answers:
Because the people have given the government permission. Every time you vote, you give the government permission to make rules for the people. The victimless crimes you speak about are some of those rules.
I jumped to a conclusion you are speaking about the the American government. I do not know about other countries but you can always move there to find out about how they handle victimless crimes.

murder @ home should be legal?.uh.hmmmm
because the american people are to apathetic to stop them.
Because they are fascist morons who are afraid to let other people live in peace. The best thing you can do is feel and live your own power.
The problem is that there are rules, guidelines, and laws, I suppose if you don't like it, you might move to where they don't have any, or where they allow what you desire.
i guess if you keep your black man in your house, and vote in your house and raise your own weed in your own house and get********* in your own house...we don't care. as a matter of fact if you stay in your house we might not even know
spouse beating, child abuse OK... as long as it happens behind closed doors?

EDIT: Try being more specific in your opening question, then
The only things that really classify as 'crime' in my mind can be categorized under violence (physical contact crimes) and theft (property crimes).

Everything else is social engineering.
There's a large contingent in our government that believes they are the morality police (based on THEIR definition of morality, of course). I don't know if it's a power trip or if it's honestly how they define being "responsible." But I agree with you that what we do between consenting adults in our own homes should be sacrosanct.
The law generally does allow you to do what you want in your own home - have sex with whomever you want, get drunk and so on. It's illegal to buy weed, and that's a transaction that always takes place outside your house. When a crime is committed outside, the police can follow the trail to your home.

Whether or not you think smoking pot should be legal, the fact is it isn't right now. You can campaign to change the law, but that doesn't mean the police will stop enforcing that law.

Marriage is a competely different topic. You can marry a man if you are a man, and you both live in Mass, or one of the states where you can legally marry in Mass (NM and RI for example). It's true that the federal law should be changed, and it will be eventually - but again, at the moment it hasn't been, and federal and state recognized marriage takes place outside the home.

You CAN get married at home to anyone you like - that's legal. It just isn't recognized by the state/federal government.
