Should parents that accidentally kill their children by forgetting them in the car go to jail?

I am all for punishing negligent parents, but until you have walked a mile in a parents shoes, you cannot judge them. It should be decided on a case by case basis as it is now. I am not defending those who intentionally leave a child in a car,but, you cannot create a generic sentence/ or law for this situation. In many cases, the child is in the back seat and a crisis or stressful situation has affected the parents ability to focus. a parent would be anguished enough knowing they caused the death of the child to have a set sentence for this.

I hate that question, because the worst thing that could happen to that parent has already happened so how does prison serve any purpose at all? But on the other hand, people have to accept responsibility for other actions that result in harm or death, even when by accident or negligence, so this should be no different. Still, I feel so bad for those parents...
If you forget your child in the car to the point that he/she dies you have a major problem. I completely understand that your child locking him/herself in the car or you forgetting for just a second but if you leave your child to die you should go to jail for life.
Yes, especially now-days. with all the ads and information about children suffocating in the car, and how it is stressed to parents to always be aware of where their children are, they should know better by now. Also, if you are stupid enough to not KNOW where your young child it (they would have to be under 10 to get left in a car and not know how to get out) you shouldn't have had kids in the first place

Most of us have had children and have driven a car with children inside and I am one who can not understand How ANYONE who is a Parent can just Leave a child in the backseat .. do they not look in the back seat before closing the door ?

Absolutely they are neglectful . they deserve to be Forgotten in the car themselves. for what would be equal time. as in lb for lb of time.no water no mommy or daddy. out in the middle of the Mohave desert. there is no way they forgot. the child became an inconvenience to then their subconscious or maby their conscious mind took care of the problem.

Yes. Doing something like thisis the same a drowning them. In my opinion. They new knew what they were doing.You have a big responsibility to look after your kids.You don't forget things like that. Car was shut off and the doors locked so no one would steal the car and they forgot the kids. I don't think so.
I think that your question should have read why shouldn't parents that "accidentally" kill their children...go to prison? Your children are a sacred trust that has been given to you. Because of their age, young children do not yet have the capability to take care of themselves. The parent is the adult and has the responsibility to care for their children and the capability to understand the possible consequences of their actions. Yes, they definitely belong in jail.

my kids are 10 and 14 and i still have this ocd like problem when i get to work and i say to myself.."omg did i leave him in the car" for all the worrying i did when they were little. there is something wrong with a parent who "forgets" their child anywhere. children are a blessing.

Especially if they knowingly leave their child in the car to run a quick errand. It's laziness at it's worst. It's easier for them, less time consuming, less work. I don't believe there is such a thing as a quick errand. Too many things can happen in a split second.

Absolutely, there is no such thing as "accidentally" leaving a child or pet in the car...it is gross negligence and/or total ignorance and there is no legal excuse why they should not be charged with murder or at least some other very serious offense, like criminal negligence causing death, that has significant jail time.if a drunk driver kills someone he is jailed and so should someone far more criminal as they were in a coherent state...both are societal deviants and should be dealt with accordingly..and the argument that maybe it was a busy mother and she has 4 more depending on her, well, there are adoptive parents out there that would know better and give the child a better chance of survival..and to the question..YES...no question about it.
I think they should. I consider this neglect. If you are too busy to think or remember your child then you should not ever had children.
