What are the labor laws in VA? I got fired, from a job, should i be given my paycheck when let go then?

They want me to wait till the 17th. Is this legal? I though that you should be given a paycheck when fired.

Answers:
California is the only state that requires an employer to present the paycheck when an employee is fired. In any other state they can (and normally do) pay you on the next regular payday.

They can wait till the next pay schedule incase you owe for tools or things
They must pay you for time worked (under federal law). I do not think there are any state laws that say they must immediately pay you. I would imagine that they could wait until the normal paycycle date (which is what I assume the 17th is)
Completely legal. They are not obligated to pay you immediately. I believe they have 30 days to pay you your last pay check.
