Me and my friends got scammed by the police?? maybe, i think soo??

okay, so me and some of my friends are all 15, and a few months ago we burned a football '2-man' pushing sled, the things to push at football practice. Anyway, We think that the school charged us WAY to much for anew one. For starters, the new one is a 3 man, not a 2 man. and we looked online for price ranges, they ranged from 500 to 1500. We pay $1500. therefore we got the nicest one. The old one was crap, it was all fallen apart. Is this illegal, what would it be called? thanks, and should be talk to the police about it? thanks

Maybe they did " scam" you and buy something better then you destroyed but consider it an object lesson for you to not going around destroying property thats not yours!

You defaced school property. You were caught and punished. Now you think you can somehow get the school in trouble for purchasing new equipment due to your destruction of the first one?

What the heck are kids learning these days??

I say, you be glad that you and your friends were able to contribute something back to the school that educates you. If anything, you should be demanding they give you and your friends some classes in "Common Sense."
Are you serious? You commit arson and are still out of prison and you are complaining about how much you got charged for replacing what you destroyed. Wow I thought I ha heard everything. You really are pathetic take your punishment and be glad that you are not in prison.
no this isn't illegal. you don't get away just with replacing what you destroyed, you also have to be punished for doing something wrong, that's why the school gets the nicer sled. and even if it was technically illegal (which it's not), i sure hope that you don't think that a couple of punks who burn stuff would get taken seriously.
How about show some remorse and learn a lesson? Paying only $1500 between you for burning up someone else's property is getting off pretty easy. Grow up.
youre lucky youre just paying for the thing.. seriously stop burning stuff Pyro!
The school is going to say they spent X amount on it so thats what they want back... you could challenge it in court but I don't think your case looks so good.
And your 15.. go out dates and **** instead of burning football gear. jeeze
no sympathy from this corner..you got what you deserved..you are lucky charges weren't pressed or you might have something to really gripe about..like buying a new sled and spending time in Juvie hall.
You'll need to check with the laws in your state. It is possible that the laws in your state requires you to repay up triple the damage you caused.
I wouldn't push it, because you may be lucky if that's all it did cost you.
The school is charging you current rates for new equipment. The condition of the equipment prior to the burning are regardless. It worked better before than it would toasted. As for the charges, consider it a fine, a get out of jail free ticket, whatever makes you feel better. I would not advise going to the police. At best, you'll be a great laugh for everyone at the station, at worse, your complaining will piss them off and they might hold you for a few hours, make your parents pick you up, or arrest you.
honestly your lucky the cops weren't involved the first time around.. youd ended up paying more.. being on probation or maybe actually spending time in lock-up.. and yes a school can force you to pay the max value to replace property you admit you destroyed! they could of expelled you too..
take what you got and be glad it wasnt what you deserved cause the cops would of been worse!
well thanks to you wise arsses they got better equipment. you said the old one was crap, right? well, you can't go to the store and buy a fallen apart piece of euipment. It doesn't matter what the old one was 'worth' because it was worn out, everything loses value after it's used! It matters that you need to replace it.

Instead of trying to figure out another angle, you need to realize that you did wrong and when you do something wrong there are consequences for your actions. If all you got was having to pay restitution you got off lucky.

Now, learn your lesson and quit trying to be 'cool'
Here's the thing -- you committed the crime and now you're trying to make yourself look like the victim because the restitution was more than you want to pay. That's why you aren't getting any sympathy here. It's easy for us to think about being crime victims and seeing the criminal whine about how it shouldn't cost him too much is really lame.
