Is it ethical??
is it unethical to report the use of pirated software by a company or internet cafe? (whistle blowing)
Answers:
Reporting it is not unethical. Using the pirated products is unethical.
Yes
It is unethical to report the use of pirated software by a company or internet cafe if you have a personal issue with them - here's why:
How many people or entities do you know that use pirated software? Okay, now how many do you know that use pirated music? Still intellectual property...
Okay, how many people do you know that ever sped in their car?
Okay, how many innocents are left?
SO, if you are at peace that you're not hypocritical for reporting, and you may be - there are some out there, and I am one NOW - then please, by all means, report them, and anyone else you know that ever breaks the law, and see what happens - I'm interested to see if society survives.
Most individuals have done SOMTHING like intellectual theft some time in their lives, and entities like cyber cafes and such are run by individuals. Doesn't make it right, but neither does the outrageous fees that lawmakers get for writing the laws that channel what gets enforced.
Sum: it's ethical if you are comfortable with it. Be at peace with yourself either way you choose to go, because that's more important than any advice given by goofusses like me.
