Ok a notary public is basically verifying that you are who you say you are, and witness you signing, then they sign, date and put their area of practice on the document, then then stick a red seal on and using a device they emboss a legal seal into the red seal. This must then be sent to the foreign and commonwealth office in London for them to attach what is called an apostille(a certificate) that confirms the Notary is genuine and registered in the th uk.
I'm sure a judge knows what she's doing.
I would have thought that you needed either a solicitor or a notary ( 1 step higher ) to authenticate a document.
Yup, I had to have a document notarized here, I went to my local solicitor and he said he could do it and he did use a proper stamp on the document.
