Has smoking been banned in....?

....Westminster, just curious

Answers:
yes. it's been banned in every public enclosure.

not in the house of lords.. no .. but westminster yes as in "the area".. comes under the queens land or something, their get out clause.

its all the UK to me = it should be banned.. 1 rule for all...

i'm a smoker.. the work vehicle part is the only bit that has annoyed me. since i never have any passengers when i do drive a work van..

also the littering thing.. £80 for dropping a cig , but should be the same for ANY litter.
This question keeps getting asked and allows a flood of indignation from people who have already answered the question in their own minds.

The House of Commons (and Lords) as the Palace of Westminster has Crown Immunity. This has many effects with regard to Health and Safety legislation, and one of these is that the Workplace Smoking Ban, which came into place on 1st July does not apply.

However, members and peers decided to impose their own smoking ban, on the same terms as if the law did apply. Smoking in the Palace of Westminster is only allowed in a couple of designated sites on the outdoor terrace. Smoking is not allowed in any bars or meeting rooms inside the palace.

A rare case of parliament doing the right thing.

Now if you want to remove Crown Immunity, that opens up a whole new can of worms about the position of the monarchy.
the houses of parliment, you can still smoke there
Yes!
yes , the mebers (mps etc) have to smoke a gd distance away from the building
Yes, of course it has.
yes. it's been banned in every public enclosure. this also means phone boxes public toilets even been told some bus stops
hi kate yes of course the ban spans the whole of the uk
I'm sure that there will be a Crown Exemption for the Houses of Parliament
On the day of the proposed smoking ban the members of the commons voted overwhelmingly to continue to allow smoking in the member's tea room.......M... Sceptic is in error..
no it has not, the MP'S that smoke can still light up in the Members Bar at Westminster, another sign that the government is willing to make us tow the line while they flaunt their own law, they take away our human rights then laugh all the way to the members bar . then they have the audacity to prosecute the Blackpool publican for upto £17, 500 for doing what they do!! MADNESS
