I think the number of technical / vocational high schools compared to strictly academic high schools is unfair
In a city of 4 high schools 1 is technical / vocational 3 are strictly academic
I think if it was one academic and 3 vocational than this would help better prepare students for the real world and get them certified in a trade so students can start a decent job after high school.

Yes it is unfair.
High schools do a decent job of preparing kids to go to college.
If they aren't going to college, they spent time learning some things they might not immediately need, and didn't learn a lot of stuff they do immediately need, like vocational skills. The German system is interesting on this account.
As it stands since the majority of manufacturing jobs are being outsourced it isn't overly practical to be a tradesman anymore unless you are looking into opening your own business after your apprenticeship. For that a business education from an academic school will come in very handy.
