28 Yr old wanting to go self employed?
Hi, My bf wants to go self employed along side his mate who is skilled in tiling, plastering and plumbing. He wants to do something (not the same as them) so that he can then obv give them business when he does a job and they can then recommend him if they come across some one that needs something doing in his line of work, if that makes sense!?! He used to do carpentry but doesnt want to do that again, hard one this but any help grateful! Thanks in anticipation.
Answers:
masonry, aluminum (screen enclosures, siding, gutters), framing, clean-up, landscaping, electrician, air conditioning, painting, roofing
It does make sense, but your boyfriend had better do things properly, including lots of boring paperwork. It might be a good idea to register for VAT so that he can claim VAT back when he buys supplies, etc. This link might help. http://www.ukincorp.co.uk/
Why doesn't he start with carpentry, doing things like fitting kitchens and bathrooms and then move sideways to other things as he identifies a need? Isn't that easier than dreaming up a new career and perhaps having to gain new skills?
Painting.
self employed is a dodgy affair make one mistake on a tax or vat return and you can end up with a massive fine or doing a spot of bird, look at the bad side first then decide.
If he's UK then what about plumbing? Apparently the country is desperately short of plumbers and you can do the courses for the certs etc at your local poly.
They should get into property development. Property development can be extremely profitable, raking in 100s of thousands of pounds. With your bf and friends skills, they would save lots of money on hiring specialists doing the jobs that they are skilled at. This way boosting profits further. Believe me this is the right path to go down. My brother did it and now he drives a merc and a BMW. very profitable and easy- providing you know what you are doing.
