How to report consumer protection related problem to the authority?
I stay in Kolkata and I want to report a problem related to consumer redressal, to the Department of Consumer Affairs of West Bengal Govt.. The online facility doesn't seem to work. How can I report this to the appropriet authority? What should I do if the authority fails to redress my problem? Are consumer forum and consumer court same thing?
Answers:
Good question.. The Govt. has made a very practical policy for the consumer protection by encouraging the formation of Consumer's Forum in District... State.. and National levels.
Whenever you have such problem you should contact this forum for guidance. First you write to the dept concerned or the party with whom you have the problem with a copy to the consumers forum. It should be noted on the original letter so that the party concerned will be aware of the consequences. Then if you donot get the positive reply within 15 days.. contact the Forum and they will take up your cause if u r on the right side. If the letter by the Forum to the party fails to give positive results... Forum will put the case in the Consumer Court of the District level. Normally these courts verdicts has got powers to settle it early. The district level , State level and National level depends on the amount involved in the case. You will know more with the Forum. Be a part of the forum by becoming a member although it is not compulsory.. you will spread the awarness of consumers.
There is a seperate Central Govt. Cell in New Delhi for the protection of consumers rights. Also a policy by the Govt. is there for 'right to informations' . All the best.
Approach District Consumer Redressal Forum with all the details.
there are appropriate authorities as per the indian consumer protection act 1986. u can represent the matter or write u r complaint to the district consumer forum in u r area and they will issue a notice to the concerned person to whom u have grivence. if u r problem is related to any product or service u have to show the bill as evidence along with ur complaint to the authorities of consumer form.ervice matters will not be taken up by the consumer forum. consumer forum and consumer courts are one and the same.
