Have you used prepaid legal services, and was it beneficial for you?
Please, no answers from people offering prepaid legal plans. I am not interested in the money making opportunities, I am interested in the opinions of consumers that have actually used the service.

Pre-paid legal is good for some things such as wills, estate planning and trusts, and other minor legal problems (real estate, etc). Some can be used for minor criminal offenses but I have found this to be marginal at best.
I used them for 1 year (part of my employers benefit plan) just to draw up my wills and trusts. After that, I cancelled the service.
Don't waste your money.
You pay monthly on them and basically you get very little for it. Some short consultations. Mostly you get a discount on the per hour charge of an attorney. Look at it real closely before deciding to do it. Do a google on the name of the company you are interested in. Best of luck.
For legal forms and documents they are ok but I will never get involved with them again. My company needed to sue another company which was also a client of this legal service. This was a disaster because the service was only interested in not offending either of their clients. I want my lawyer to be fighting for me and not trying to talk me out of sueing another one of his clients.
If you have a reason to use them before you sign up then Yes some of the companies have great programs. If you have no need and just think you might need them in the future then don't bother.
I joined and used the S*** out of it for two years, a will, several trusts and at least seven letters to companies to get things fixed, and they appeared for one traffic matter for me. Then I dropped it when I was done. I paid a total of $480, It was well worth it.
My friend, signed up when I did, has not used it once so his $480 is a waste.
I have the service. It's nice to be able to pick up the phone call an Attorney about any legal matter. They talk to you like a real person. I have saved over $1k on bills using the service. It paid for itself after the 1st use. You can get a smaller plan for only $17.00 a month. It has all the same features as the $26.00 a month plan, just less hours for court.
If you need legal help and don't have the money for an attorney, this is your answer.
