Would this equal defemation, slander, liable, etc?
I had a crazy rollercoaster relationship for seven years that including everything from cheating, abuse and manipulation. Clearly, when I finally wised up, I don't really care for him any more then I care for a pile of slime. However, I'm also a writer and I've been told by many people that my seven years of torture are best seller material. I think if I did write about it, it would mainly be to enlighten everyone into what my actions were about for seven years and help them understand the physical and mental anquish I went through and overcame and to show that its isn't impossible to do so. I wouldn't be doing it to ruin his name or his image, no matter how much he may deserve it.
How do people who write their own biographies not get sued for defemation/slander/etc? It would all be the truth, but in the end many people would have a different view of him.
Any advice?

One thing to keep in mind is that even if you can prove the truth of what you wrote, fighting that type of lawsuit can be expensive and a lengthy process.
Just 'fictionalize' it. If your name is Sarah Haeris and ex is name Jake, write about 'fictional' Susan Harris and here evil ex, Jack.
If it's true, there's nothing to worry about. Slander and libel only really apply if what is said is untrue.
Use a pseudo name for him. That way if he sues, he'll be calling himself out, which you wouldn't have actually done...

Exactly what prophet said, above. If it's true, it's not defamatory in the eyes of the law.
It is not slander or defamation if it is true. If you are really worried change the names.
