I have something i want to trademark?

can i just say i have it trademarked or do i have to get some legal involvement.

Answers:
Like stated above..the mark can be used at anytime.. but if you want it to be inforceable when a time of infringement occurs then you need to register it.

You can use TM after the mark, but in order to sue for willful infringement and collect the maximum if your mark is infringed, you need to register the trademark and use (R) to show that the mark is registered. See the site below to see how the process works.
