yet say i had a masters and worked as chief editor of a popular worldwide website but cannot give over my previous details..
what happens? Can i lie and literally get away with it?

I would think that those types of things could be arranged somehow to follow you, but then it is lying because you didn't work under, or go to school under the new name.

Sort of- the Witness Protection Program will actually work closely with you to develop a backstory that won't be questioned much. Generally any contact information you'd need to give about your past would lead back to them, and they would confirm it for you. But you can't have a story so extravagant that people are constantly looking it up- because drawing attention to yourself while in the witness protection program is counter-productive.
No. The WPP would supply you with documents equivalent to what you already had, but with a different name or SSN depending if it had to be on the document. If you had a masters you would get a masters degree to produce if asked. And the whole point of the WPP is that you never tell anybody you had a previous identity. you have to act like the new identity they give you was the one that you have always had.

You need to be evasive obviously -If this is a real life dillemma and not just theoretical - BUT we need more information - I. E what type of criminal or government you need to evade and what kind of degee you have - english/ mathematics /science- etc BUT- BUT ,if you are in such a predicament that enables people to look for you then live around enemies of these people and become one with that society until you find a way of eliminating the threat.

The idea of witness protection is be low profile, so creating a high profile and getting in the press to satisfy your ego would probably get you killed. So no use to the authorities and therefore no witness protection.

Why would anyone announce to the world that they have been in a WPP? Surely, that would defeat the whole object of the WPP?
