What happens if you have a warrent, and you go to court to get this taken care of?

my brother has a warrent he failed to appear to court. His been having this warrent since last December, we got pulled over around 4 months ago and the cop told him he had a warrant for his arrest, the cop said it was only for $500 and to go get it taken care of cause next time he was going to go to jail. Will he wants to take care of it but his scared to go to court, whats the worse they can do to him??

Answers:
Most likely just a little community service or a fine. In the most severe circumstance he may get a few months jail time - but that's very unprobable.

Lock him up!
in cali you go to court, and tell them you want the fine lowered. they usually dismiss the FTA since you showed up, but that will be a $10 dollar fee. He won't go to jail just will need to pay a fine. WHAT did he do BTW?
They're more lenient on people who turn themselves in. Will be worse if he gets caught.
They may end up going to jail to take care of it,and a fine.
I had this same problem with a unpaid speeding ticket. All he has to do is go to the court house and either give them the $500 or set up a payment plan. He may have to go to court for the time he didnt go but as long as it wasnt for anything serios he will be fine.
He should have someone go and pay the bill for him, and then call a lawyer. If its paid then they probably won't pursue it. But if he goes and pays it then he can get arrested. That cop was nice or just not petty, because he could have been taken when y'all got pulled over.
Sounds like a traffic fine with a warrant for failure to appear. If your bro goes to court and takes care of the fine and the cost of the court, the warrant should be cancelled. BUT, it's been known that the clerks fail to dismiss the warrant even though the fine has been paid so there's likely the chance that your bro can be arrested and taken to jail because of the paperwork fault. One of the unknown penalties of not taking care of your summons.
they can put him in jail for failure to appear in court. If you're to appear in court, it's not optional. YOU HAVE TO GO, or they will come looking for you.
If you go to court and take care of it, the court will cancel the warrant.

If you ignore it (or if, instead of going to the court you turn yourself into a police station) then the police will arrest you and physically take you before the court.
Go to court and tell the truth. Sounds like a simple misdemeanor but the longer you wait the worse it will be.
