What is the TRUTH?
In today's political landscape, the quote by Leon Festinger "A man with conviction is a hard man to change. Tell him you disagree and he turns away. Show him facts or figures and he questions your sources. Appeal to logic and he fails to see your point," could not be any more appropriate. Advertisers, Democrats, Republicans, corporations, the latter having become almost interchangeable with the two before it, are all telling us lies on a daily basis. I was going to be kind by calling them half-truths, exaggerations, or distortions, but I'd prefer not to mince words.

no, you're not being told the truth. you're being told what they want you to believe, for their agenda. you have to use your brain and sift through the lies,and use some common sence.
i'll debate anything with anyone, and if you can convince me your idea is better,truer,or more logical,then i'll believe you.

Reality.
God's word. That which we know to be true.
That's not a man of 'convictions'. That's a fanatic.
Someone who holds to their convictions might still be completely reasonable and open to changing their opinion on an issue -- even one that is important to them. Standing by your convictions only means not letting things slide when the issues are important to you. It doesn't mean being blindly obstinate.
That being said, yes -- far too many people are blindly obstinate. And far too many are blindly obstinate about too many different issues.
Example. I'm blindly obstinate about the existence of a divine being. That comes from being an ordained minister. But I don't try to force my beliefs on anyone else, and belief in that one area does not override my ability to discuss any other issue (even related issues, such as the nature or powers of that divine being) rationally.
Truth is hard to find today, but it's out there. The media won't tell you so you'll have to find it on your own. follow the paper trail.
What is the truth?
-Evolution is a fact.
-Gun control doesn't work.
-Brute force doesn't win wars.
-Islam is a threat to democracy.
-Global warming is overrated, and the planet will soon start to cool itself.
-Except for aluminium and tech components, recycling is a bad idea.
-Corporate embezzlers steal more money than all other thieves put together.
