Can i change solicitor midway through a case whilst on legal aid, at no cost to myself?
i feel that after 5 years my solicitor has lost interest in my compensation case and is dragging his heels. when continually asking for an appointment to talk things over and get and update, he refuses to see myself, i find this very upsetting as i am ignorant as to where we are with the case after 5 years of waiting.

5 years?
Contact Legal Aid Services
http://www.legalservices.gov.uk/aboutus/...
and ask for advice.
You may be able to change to a different solicitor but you may also be able to make a complaint about your present solicitor that will bring him to the attention of the The Legal Complaints Service.
If there's any hint of him defrauding the Legal Aid system, he'll be investigated.
Depending on how complex the case has become, your solicitor should be keeping you apprised throughout and he should be accepting you for interview if he isn't forthcoming with information.
You will have to give his details to your new solicitor and they will request the documents from the original guy.
Good Luck in dumping this guy!
5 yrs is a long time with no result damn...have u never got a letter about settling out of court cos that usally happens with the 1st yr seems he isusing u to get monies out of legal aid, so id get on the phone to legal aid head office and get advice from them and tell them what u have said in here.
