If molesting children is bad, why do millions keep going to the churches that get caught doing it?
If you really care, isn't it safer to stay away from those places?

Good question, I don't know why. You could say it was just the priests' fault personally, but the churches deliberilately concealed the problem and in my opinion that now makes it their fault as well. I would not knowingly go to a church that protects child molesters.
Churches are not molesting children. Some priests who have forgotten their calling have done it, but then so have many teachers. I suppose we should stop sending our children to school as well.
I do care and I will never go to a church like that. I am highly against child abuse of any form.
But for many it is a way of life and they dont know anything else. If generations of your family were brought up a certain faith, it is easier to stay. I cannot speak for everyone though.
It's not the CHURCH that gets caught doing it - it's the pastors and priests who manipulate their way into the hearts and trust of children, only to abuse them and scar them for life.
Would I go back to the same church if I had been going before had there been a sexual crime committed against a child? Probably not.
Everyone wants to believe that church is a safe place, a holy place - it is, however, it's important that parents always have an eye on their child, and have great communication and trust - so if this had ever happened, the child would tell their parent without fear of being punished. Some children are being sexually abused each day, and no one knows about it.
Child molestation goes on in any place, at any time - not only at churches, but schools as well.
It's probably best that children just stay home until they are 18, because child molesters place themselves in jobs where they have easy access...like daycares, schools, after school programs. Oh, maybe they shouldn't even stay at home, parents, siblings, parents boyfriends/girlfriends, etc. also molest kids. Find a nice, sterile environment with no adults for the kids until they turn 18.
Because these people are smart not to blame an entire institution for the crimes of a few individual employees of that institution.
It's kinda like saying you're a fool for living in a big city, because cities have higher crime rates and therefore all city-dwellers are criminals.
There is no "if" about it, abusing small people sexually is bad; it is bullying defenseless children. Many who go to church are hypocrites; they sin in private and pray in public. The ones that shout the loudest about sinners are often guilty of the sins they condemn. Perhaps that is human nature.
Old habits die hard, especially religious habits that have drilled obedience and rituals into people's brains. Why do you think it was so easy for the priests to molest kids without consequences for so long?
And also, there are many people who have turned their backs on the church that allowed the abuse to fester (the priests and clergy did the molesting, by the way, not the actual church -- that's a building).
The Catholic church is not the problem, it was a few evil men who used the priesthood to advance their proclivities. We do not condemn schools because a few sick individuals become teachers just to get with children, so we should not condemn the Church.
