Do I need to declare Chinese traditional medicine at U.S. custom?
I bought some chinese traditional medicine at Shanghai (with a physician's prescription).
So, when I return to US, do I need to declare it?
If yes, do I need any kind of documents??
Any kind of answers are appreciated!
Answers:
YES, you need to declare ALL articles you acquired while abroad. Whether you bought them, found them or they were given to you. Many Chinese medicines are perfectly enterable into the US, a few are not. They can contain animal parts from endangered species that are a Fish and Wildlife violation or they can contain ingredients that are an agriculture violation. If you declare your items and they are not enterable they will simply be taken and you will be released. If you do not declare and they are found you face a first time fine of $300.00 (and you still lose the items).
As for prescription medications, you are allowed a three month supply dependent on dosage, with valid prescription.
Believe me, as a CBP Officer I like to think I am up to date on the regulations
No, you don't , I went back to Taiwan and brought them back, they didn't say anything to me, but you need to declare it and give it an estimated value on the airplane.

Yes you will, more than likely they will confiscate it

Don't try and not declare them as they may also
contain drugs that are banned.
